Question:

Unusual knee pain... (I'm a competitive cyclist). See below.

Ok here goes, about a month ago I was doing some interval training after being aboard for 2 weeks and not cycling. I pushed a bit too hard and I developed a tightness and soreness just below, posterior and a tad medial to the fibula head in my right leg. The pain really never went away and I have continued to cycle through it. I have tried to rub it out and ice it to no avail. The area is a bit swollen and the pain has settled into the proximal lateral belly of the gastrocnemius muscle. There also might be a component of bicipital, biceps femoris, or popliteal tendinitis besides this gastrocnemius tendinitis. Could it also be a biceps femoris bursitis? I don't know? It hurts most when I have my knee bent, and it feels better when I straighten it.

How do I make this better? I have moved my seat down, moved the seat forward (which made it worse). I can only cycle easily now. Rapid cadence of pushing hard makes the pain worse. It is the end of the season and I have two more races left. Should I just grit and get through them or what. I tried to switch to running for a week but actually that made it worse also.

Thanks for your advice.
